How we use cookies and similar technologies on thesproutschool.com and our platform, and how you can control them.
References in this document to another named policy (for example "our Privacy Policy" or "Safeguarding Policy") mean the relevant Part of our five policy documents: Terms & Conditions; Fees, Refunds & Sales Policy; Privacy Policy; Cookie Policy; and Safeguarding & School Policies Handbook.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit thesproutschool.com or use our learning platform. We use them in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR. Where cookies collect personal data, our Privacy Policy also applies.
2. Types of cookies we use
Strictly necessary: essential for login, session security and remembering your cookie choice (session_id, cookie_consent). These do not require consent.
Analytics: help us understand how our website is used, using Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*). Set only with your consent.
Marketing: measure and deliver advertising using Meta Pixel (_fbp). Set only with your consent, used only on parent-facing pages, and never loaded on student login or learning pages.
We do not currently use functional or preference cookies beyond those listed in Section 4.
3. Managing cookies
When you first visit our website, a banner asks whether you accept or reject non-essential cookies. Both options are presented equally, and no analytics or marketing cookies are set unless you accept. Your choice is stored in the cookie_consent cookie.
You can manage, block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Deleting cookies, including cookie_consent, withdraws any consent you previously gave, and our banner will ask for your choice again on your next visit.
Instructions are available in the help pages of your browser (for example Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge).
You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Rejecting non-essential cookies will not affect how our website works. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent login and some features from working.
4. Cookie list
The table below lists the cookies used on our website and platform. We review it at least annually, and whenever we add a new tool.
Cookie Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Used to distinguish unique users and track site usage statistics. | 2 years / 1 session |
_fbp | Meta / Facebook | Used by Meta Pixel to deliver and measure targeted advertising on parent-facing pages. | 3 months |
session_id | The Sprout School | Strictly necessary cookie used to maintain user login state and session security. | Session (expires when browser closes) |
cookie_consent | The Sprout School | Remembers whether the user has accepted or rejected non-essential cookies. | 1 year |
Durations shown are the maximum periods set by each provider and may change if a provider updates its cookies.
5. Changes and contact
We will update this policy if the cookies we use change. Questions: info@thesproutschool.com. See also our Privacy Policy.
